Here at OnlyInYourState, we love a good hike. However, we REALLY love a good waterfall hike. In the Gem State, there are several waterfall hikes that the entire family will love. One of our favorites is Ross Falls, one of the most underrated waterfalls in Idaho. To reach this beautiful waterfall, you must conquer a short hiking trail that is almost like it came out of a fairy tale. It’s one hiking trail in Idaho that you will regret not exploring.
The Ross Falls Trail can be found in southern Idaho, south of the small town of Hansen and in the South Hills. You can find the trailhead off of Rock Creek Road, north of the Magic Mountain Ski Area.
Ross Falls is one of the most kid-friendly waterfalls hikes in Idaho. It is a 0.4-mile, out-and-back trail, making it the perfect distance for even young children.
There is something incredibly unique and charming about an old building, especially when it was built when Colorado became a state! Thankfully, there are plenty of these historic buildings that remain today that give a glimpse into our Wild West past, including the incredible, must-see Strater Hotel, one of the most historic hotels in the U.S.
Initially opened in 1887, the Strater Hotel was (and still is!) the grand dame of the west, beginning with its Victorian-style architecture complete with 376,000 native red bricks and hand-carved sandstone cornices and sills.
If you think the exterior is impressive, the interior will drop your jaw, as it boasts intricate handcrafted woodwork, a grand lobby with chandeliers and pristine ceilings, and 88 stunning rooms.
You’ve heard people say that there is something healing about being in nature, but if you are like me, you took that in a more metaphorical sense than something that can physically heal you… but what if such a place in nature actually existed? According to several Coloradans, that place is right here in our own backyard, thanks to these pure and healing Colorado waters:
Deep in the woods of Arapaho National Forest, Uncle Charlie’s Ranch and the one-of-a-kind Wideawake Spring.
What would you say if I asked which Indiana Jones movie was the best? Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, correct? Starring Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, and River Phoenix, this 3rd installment of the franchise follows Indy as he rescues his father, and the two of them search for the Holy Grail. Aside from the plot, one of my favorite aspects of the movie is that parts were filmed in this tiny Colorado town you will want to visit!
Welcome to Antonito: A small south-central Colorado town of 700 that just so happens to house Indiana Jones’ childhood home!
Part of the fun of living in Washington is exploring the great outdoors. And sometimes you need to spend your days enjoying nature and your nights sleeping in cozy comfort. These getaways are the ultimate combination of both.
There are many spots around Utah that are supposedly haunted. From hotels and homes to cemeteries, there are certainly a lot of unsettled spirits in the Beehive State! It only makes sense that some of our campgrounds could be the sites of the supernatural, and Dead Horse State Park has some particularly unique haunts.
It’s hard to think of a more beautiful place than Dead Horse State Park. It sits 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, and offers expansive views that go on for miles.
The Kayenta Campground at the park offers 21 campsites with electric hookups and shade awnings. It’s a great place to pitch your tent or pull up your RV for an overnight adventure.
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is home to some of the most unique and beautiful natural wonders. While some of these natural features are well known like Calf Creek Falls and Buckskin Gulch, there is another area that deserves just as much attention – Devil’s Garden. This natural playground may be small but it features remarkable hoodoos, sandstone formations, and even arches. This is one destination in Utah where Mother Nature sure outdid herself.
Devil’s Garden is essentially a small park full of sandstone formations. It may remind you of areas in Utah like Goblin Valley, but on a much smaller scale.
To reach Devil’s Garden, you will follow the Hole-in-the-Rock Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument for approximately 12 miles. You will come to a small lot in front of the Devil’s Garden where you can park and stay for the day.
This area of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the perfect family stop. There is a short hike to help you better explore the formations or you can just sit at a picnic table and enjoy the view from a distance.

If you live in Colorado and/or have ever read Stephen King’s iconic “The Shining,” you already know about the hidden gem that is the Stanley Hotel. That being said, when it makes a national list, we cannot help but feel giddy and take notice, which is precisely what happened when the Stanley Hotel was added to this famous US Travel Bucket List:
Listed with the likes of the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and the Pony Express National Historic Trail, USA Today encourages its readers to pay homage to the allegedly haunted Stanley by staying the night, noting that “Though [Stephen King’s] experiences took place in room 217, the hotel plays the horror film on a loop in all of its guest rooms for visitors’ enjoyment.”
