Carved thousands of years ago by ancient winds, this 40-ton boulder is balancing precariously on a small tableau only 3 feet wide by seemingly impossible physics. Oregon’s natural wonders are numerous and varied, from the Painted Hills to the Oregon Coast, the Columbia River Gorge to Smith Rock, and the Beaver State is a place of immense wonder and intrigue. There are some places, though, that are so mysterious that they continue to captivate experts and archaeologists… even to this day. The state of Alaska has countless magnificent waterfalls hidden in beautiful spots all over the place. There’s one place with many accessible waterfalls for you to go and admire. If you find yourself asking, “are there any waterfalls near me?”, then you’ll absolutely love the Valdez waterfalls. They are breathtaking examples of some of Alaska’s wild beauty!
Valdez is a small little town on the coast of Alaska.
Southern Utah summers mean endless days of triple-digit temperatures, but that doesn’t have to hold you back from exploring some of the natural wonders found here. On a hot afternoon, what you need is a trail with a waterfall payoff at its end. Lower Calf Creek Falls is just the ticket, and it even offers a nice, chilly pool for wading and swimming.
The Calf Creek Recreation Area is located between the towns of Escalante and Boulder, and it’s managed by the Bureau of Land Management. You’ll find a day-use area and a small campground here.
To reach the lower falls, start at the well-marked trailhead. You’ll want to make sure to bring plenty of water along. Though this hike doesn’t have much elevation gain, it can still be fairly strenuous, and summer temperatures can easily reach 100 degrees or more.
